Common acne myths.
Let’s be frank! Acne is the most annoying disease on the planet, it crops up at the most inopportune times, causes tremendous breakouts and the sometimes simply disappears on it own.
Like I said, simply hair-wrenchingly annoying!
But for all that, there are few common acne myths floating around which are taken as the absolute truth, but do they really have any scientific basis? I didn’t really know but I thought I’d find out. So, here’s what my research says about the common myths of acne,
- Chocolate causes acne- Yeah, right. This is probably every dentist’s nightmare. Imagine what would happen if ever child and teen simply stopped eating chocolate to avoid acne. Instant bankruptcy for the dentist and his clan! But I digress! Suffice to say that there’s no relation between chocolate and acne.
- Acne is contagious- No, you can’t catch acne from someone! And no matter how desperately you want to give that really bitchy friend of yours few zits, you really can’t, it’s not possible!
- Stress can increase acne- Well I don’t care what the research says on this, because it’s definitely true in my case. Stress causes my acne to flare up due to the secretion of a hormone called as Cortisol. Cortisol can increase production of sebum causing a flare up of your acne during high-tension times like examinations and job interviews.
- Sex causes acne- He he, He he (dirty grin) not true is it?
- Acne is only surface deep-Acne is skin disease, but anyone who has had a really bad case of acne knows how people can react to it. First impressions are based on looks and a bad case of acne can damage that first impression. People can make really nasty comments and it can be really hurtful. But you have to remember that it’s a treatable condition.
So get off your butt and do something!
