People don’t usually see adult acne as normal because of the popular misconceptions that only teenagers are affected by acne. But the truth is, acne can affect anyone although it is particularly prevalent during the teen years. It is important to remember that just like in the case of teenagers, adult acne treatments should depend on the severity of the condition. If you only get an occasional pimple then you most likely don’t need to consult with a dermatologist because using a drying agent can take care of it. It is recommended for you to use something with benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid as these are proven to be effective.
If you are suffering from severe acne though, then you probably need a more aggressive treatment. Consulting with a dermatologist will make sense in this case because they will be able to give prescriptions for you. For adult acne, it is likely that the dermatologist will prescribe Accutane; there are many side effects from Accutane usage though. It is also important to take note that Accutane should not be used by pregnant women.
