enlightened student

To be enlightened is to have ultimate wisdom, and to be a student is to pursue the acquisition of knowledge. An example of the enlightened student is the classmate with intuitive knowledge of how to succeed with neither great effort nor concern of success. How is this possible? It is achievable through the following special psycho-spiritual outlook.

1. Study Something You ENJOY

You have a higher probability of passive success by studying something you sincerely enjoy, regardless of your career ambitions. I have seen countless students who attempted to get into a professional program through studying science based subjects which they loathed. The purpose of undergraduate education is to gather a well rounded knowledge base applicable throughout your life in any interest you pursue. Worldly knowledge has always been the basis of higher education traceable right through to antiquity. In studying your subject of enjoyment, you will naturally become passionate and passively ambitious. Cultivation of these characteristics will translate into the successful achievements necessary for a prosperous life. If we use my experience as an example, I new that I wanted to ultimately pursue medicine, but for my undergraduate I studied my sincere interest; philosophy. The study of philosophy captivated me to such an extent that I instinctively and effortlessly produced outstanding essays which professors loved. Once the professors recognize your interest and sincerity, they will naturally assign higher grades which will provide you with the higher grade point average necessary for any further levels of graduate programs or employment. All of your outstanding accomplishments will be achieved both passively and with relatively little personal effort.

2. Pursue the subject matter, not the grade

If you chase the grade you will always be doing just that, chasing the grade. If you master the subject matter of your field of study, the high grades will come naturally. As an example, we have all experienced a person who is merely doing an action to fulfill that outcome of that action, whether this is your banker or your grocery clerk, the lack of sincerity is instantly recognized in distaste by the customer. The trick to life which this example is demonstrating is to purposefully arrange your tasks of pursuit to be primarily those in which you feel passion. This holds true for both your professional life as well as your extracurricular interests. Once this is accomplished you will soon see your natural affinity translated into efficient productivity which will enable effortless fulfillment of your ambitions.

3. Maintain a carefree and relaxed mindset

There is an ancient Chinese proverb of a man who is making a play at marbles with the knowledge of its impending great wager. The proverb follows the knowledge of his wager instills a subconscious sense of nervousness which creates a higher probability of error compared to the play of an oblivious player. The moral of the proverb is that perceived seriousness of a task can actually impede the accomplishment of that task. It does not follow, however, that focus should not be cultivated as each player was equally focused, except one player was mentally clouded by the knowledge of the wager while the other player’s conscious was focused but clear. If you always maintain a mindset which diminishes the gravity of your tasks, then your actions will be un-errored by nervousness or tension. The proof is in the pudding as both ancient and modern Chinese sages live notoriously long and prosperous lives which researchers have attributed to their stress free psyco-spirtual outlook and their effortlessly productive lifestyle.
