Acne is a skin condition that practically all teens go through, and suffer from in their teenage lives. Some of these young people suffer from bad bouts of acne, while others suffer from manageable cases of acne.
According to a new study, there are many young people out there who tend to attempt suicide just because they are suffering from bad bout of acne.
Reports state that about 34 percent of young people suffering from bad acne tend to think of killing themselves, 9 percent of these people grew anxious with acne while 13 percent have even gone to the extent of attempting suicide.
This study also shows that there is an increasing relationship lying between skin diseases and mental health. The reason these young people consider death, when suffering from acne is that their age is one where they tend to develop a type of identity and self worth.
It is this identity problem that creates adverse psychological effects that are associated to, and related to acne.
However there is no link between this anxiety and depressive symptoms due to acne, and gender, age and ethnicity. With this study, it is now suggested that doctors who see and treat young people with problematic acne, have to handle the situation delicately.
These doctors play an important role in screening their patients for anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts and it is their duty to try and bring these patients of theirs, out of these suicidal and negative thoughts.
