Muay Thai looks just like some furious punches, lethal kicks and artful feints on television; however nothing can bring out louder cheers to this art than watching it being executed with loud cheers and heart racing tunes of an a wind and percussion ensemble.
Muay Thai is a martial art, and a proud heritage of the people of Thailand. its history is as interesting as the history of Thailand. basically Thaïs are peace loving and gentle people who had to defend their land and themselves from aggressive powers.
This is how they had developed a form of close and hand to hand combat that was best suited for fighting the rough terrain battle they were fighting for. With the passing of time, this fight for survival developed into a necessity for Thai men training in the art.
At the start, muay Thai was rather dangerous where there was no safety gear for the fighters to wear. all they had were lengths of cords that were wrapped around the fists as gloves.
However time brought with it rules that were written following international boxing regulations. In fact, recently, the sport has attracted so much of popularity outside Thailand that training arrangements have been set up in distant countries like US and former Soviet states.
The World Muay Thai Council was started in 1995 following a cabinet resolution to promote this game to national and international levels. after soccer, muay Thai is the most passionately followed sport of Thailand.
Its fights are broadcast five days a week while fight results in major stadiums are reported in major newspapers. Even international boxing is popular here with the country producing dozens of world champions having roots as muay Thai fighters.
