Acne is something millions of people from all parts of the world suffer from. it proves to be rather difficult getting rid of both the pimples and scars that arise from acne. At present, the most common and effective treatments for acne are oral antibiotics and isotretinoin.
However researchers are always on the lookout for something safe and new in treating acne; and one of these acne treatments is Photocure.
This is a treatment that has been proven safe and effective in studies conducted in 2005 in three Nordic centers. Anne-Marie Wennberg of Gothenburg’s Sahlgrenska University Hospital had led the study.
In this randomized and placebo controlled trial and study, Photocure’s patented MAL cream was compared with placebo cream in its effectiveness in treating moderate to severe facial acne in about 30 patients.
In the trial, MAL or placebo cream was applied to both sides of the patient’s face. It was left there for about three hours, after which the skin was illuminated using Photocure’s Aktilite lamp.
At the end of the study, it was found that patients who had used Photocure treatment for curing acne found an improvement of about 54% in acne lesions. And these results were also published in the British Journal of Dermatology.
So with this test, it can be proven that Photocure is indeed an effective treatment for both moderate to severe acne. There are minor side effects to this acne treatment like slight pain and some redness.
However there are still some more studies to be conducted on this mode of acne treatment, before it is pronounced to be safe to be used by the public.
