Zinc Supplement Tablets - Dosage and effects of Zinc supplements
Zinc is an important trace element. It is an important ingredient of various enzymes that are used by the body in executing chemical reactions at normal rates. It plays an important role in protein synthesis (production of protein) and in cell division. It is also a component of insulin and is responsible for developing our sense of smell. Zinc is found in plenty in meat especially liver, eggs, seafood, nuts and cereal. As per the recommendations of the National Academy of Sciences, the Recommended Dietary Allowances of zinc are 12 milligrams for women and 10 milligrams for men daily.
Though it is advisable to meet your zinc requirements from food, it is difficult in today’s world. This is where zinc supplement tablets come into picture. They take care of any shortfall in your daily intake of zinc. The dosage for zinc supplement tablet will be prescribed by your healthcare provider or in case you are taking it without any prescription, read the instructions on the packet carefully. Always take it on empty stomach or an hour prior to meal or 2 hours after meal. Swallow the tablet completely instead of crushing, breaking or chewing it.
Before taking zinc supplement tablet, talk to your doctor if you any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products. Don’t take it along with copper, iron, or phosphorus supplements and ensure there is a time gap of at least 2 hours between them to allow each of them to work. Also don’t take zinc along with whole-grain bread or cereal, bran, milk, yogurt, cheese, or ice cream as they can hamper the absorption of zinc.
Although zinc supplement tablet is safe, in certain cases its overdose can cause some problems like chills; persistent ulcers or sores in mouth or throat; fever; heartburn; indigestion; nausea; sore throat; unexplained tiredness or weakness, chest pain; dizziness; fainting; shortness of breath; vomiting; yellow eyes or skin.

I have been taking zinc supplements for a couple of months because I have throid problems.
Can this cause a reaction to the sun? I have been having trouble everytime I am out in the sun, even though I have been using sunscreen 30 and have never had a problem before.
Thanks for any info you can provide.
